Galatasaray will be without star forward Victor Osimhen when they face Eintracht Frankfurt in Thursday’s Champions League clash, a setback that could shape their European ambitions.
Victor Osimhen has been left out of Galatasaray’s 23-man squad for their trip to Germany, with the striker still nursing the shin injury he sustained during Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Rwanda in the 2026 AFCON qualifier in Uyo.
Osimhen misses Frankfurt trip
The Champions League tie at Deutsche Bank Park had been marked as an early test for the Turkish champions, but Osimhen’s absence shifts the spotlight onto other attackers.
The Super Eagles star limped off in the first half at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, forcing Eric Chelle to replace him with Cyriel Dessers.
Galatasaray confirmed his exclusion in a squad list posted on X, while club media shared images of Wednesday’s final training session — none of which included Osimhen.
A setback for Galatasaray’s European push
For manager Okan Buruk, the loss of his top striker is a major blow as the team looks to banish memories of last season’s disappointing European run, when they fell 6-3 on aggregate to AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League play-off round.
Osimhen had started this season in strong form, scoring in each of his first two appearances, and was expected to lead Galatasaray’s frontline in the Champions League.
His injury now leaves the Turkish champions with a challenge: find alternative firepower while waiting for their top striker to return.
