Christy scored the game winner as her goal helped the Super Falcons seal all three points following their 2-0 victory over Botswana on Thursday in the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Super Falcons bounced back to victory after Bayana Bayana side of South African had earlier crushed the Nigerian team 2-1 in the tournament’s opening game.

Just 22 minutes into the contest, Ifeoma Onumonu opened the scoring for the Super Falcons. She was positioned perfectly to softly tap the ball in for the opening goal.

Nnadozie Chiamaka, the Super Falcons’ goalkeeper, produced a fantastic save in the 32nd minute to save Botswana from grabbing an equaliser.

Before the Super Falcons extended their lead to 2-0 after 47 minutes, Chiamaka produced another incredible stop in the 38th minute to preserve their lead.

Christy Ucheibe effectively headed the ball home to double Nigeria’s lead barely a minute after coming into the match, her first action in a WAFCON competition.

Seven minutes into the second half of the game, Ucheibe found herself inside the box once more and came within inches of scoring another goal for the Falcons, but her shot missed the target.

After the match, the 21-year-old midfielder was quick to acknowledge her satisfaction in helping the Falcons win on her official Twitter account.

I am so proud to have scored my first goal for the Super Falcons and helped the team secure this important victory.” – She said.

On Sunday, the Super Falcons will play the Swallows of Burundi in an effort to extend their winning streak.
