Nigeria’s Super Eagles extended their lead in Group D of the Afcon 2021 with a 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau on Wednesday evening.

With goals from Sadiq and Troost-Ekong, the Augustine Eguavoen-led side maintained their perfect record at the Afcon 2021, winning all three group matches.

Nigeria has already qualified for the next round of the competition, but all they needed was a draw against Guinea Bissau to win Group D, and they scored two goals in the process.

The Super Eagles had a few chances to grab the lead, but the first half finished with a scoreless draw.

Umar Sadiq had the best opportunity when Nwakali let him through with a wonderful through ball, the striker did well to go past the goalkeeper, but he couldn’t get the ball off his feet afterwards.

Before being replaced by Olayinka, Iheanacho produced one of the best assists you will ever see at the tournament, setting up Umar again for a tap-in to give Nigeria the lead.

William Troost-Ekong right footed shot from very close range to the centre of the goal following a corner made it 2-0 for the Eagles.

Nigeria are the only team to finish the group stage with a 100% record, Egypt end comfortably second, while Sudan and Guinea-Bissau are both eliminated from the tournament.

This is team Nigeria’s 19th appearances at AFCON, but Austin Eguavoen is yet the only coach to have led the Super Eagles to 3/3 wins in the group stages. Now he’s done it twice!
