Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has acknowledged that he might face a challenging start to his career at Lazio, after identifying the Serie A’s tactical intensity as his biggest challenge.
Dele-Bashiru joined Lazio on loan from Turkish Super Lig club Hatayaspor earlier this summer. The 23-year-old has participated in several preseason fixtures but admits he will need time to adjust to the complexities of Italian football.
“Italian football is very tactical; this is the biggest challenge,” Dele-Bashiru said. “My favourite role is as a number 8 or 10. I am ready to play and make the fans happy. I had some problems at the beginning of the season, but now I am better, and I understand what the coach wants.”
Dele-Bashiru moved to Sheffield Wednesday in 2020 after spending over a decade at Manchester City’s Academy. The Eagles midfielder believes these experiences will be instrumental in his adaptation to Serie A.
“The training I received at Manchester City was excellent, and Turkish football taught me a lot. I know I’ll need to adapt to Serie A, but I’ve found a very supportive environment here, and I hope we can have a great season,” the 23-year-old added.
Meanwhile, Dele-Bashiru has been handed Lazio’s number 7 jersey, previously worn by Brazilian legend Felipe Anderson.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the former Sheffield Wednesday star is expected to make his official debut for Lazio against Venezia on Sunday, August 18.
