Although Lookman managed just eight goals in 42 games during his time with Rodgers at Leicester, the Celtic manager has highlighted the winger’s relentless pursuit of improvement.
Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers has praised Ademola Lookman for his long-term dedication and commitment to improving his game.
Rodgers previously coached Lookman at Leicester City during the 2021/22 season, where the Super Eagles winger scored eight goals in 42 appearances for the Foxes. Despite this modest output, the former Liverpool manager highlighted Lookman’s work ethic and passion for self-improvement.
“He leads his life in the right way,” Rodgers said. “Everything is geared towards being the best he can be. Watching him in that Europa League final, the goals he scored were not by accident.
“He practised every day of his life where he could. He would be out with a bag of balls, doing shooting exercises long after everyone else had gone in, working on both his right and left foot. He’s so balanced—he can shoot just as well with his right as with his left.”
Meanwhile, Rodgers had earlier expressed his regret at not securing Lookman on a permanent transfer during their time together at Leicester. UEFA Financial Fair Play restrictions prevented the club from completing the deal, ultimately leading Lookman to join Atalanta.
After an impressive 2023/24 campaign with the Italian side, Lookman has continued his fine form, contributing three goals and three assists in nine appearances for Atalanta in the 2024/25 season.
