Lazio’s head coach challenges Dele-Bashiru to adapt mentally to Serie A demands
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has featured in just three Serie A games for Lazio, averaging 22 minutes per appearance with no goal contributions.
Marco Baroni, Lazio head coach, has urged Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to improve his mental sharpness to meet the demands of Serie A.
Dele-Bashiru joined Lazio on a season-long loan from Hatayspor during the summer transfer window. However, the Super Eagles midfielder has made just three league appearances for the Biancocelesti.
“Dele is a strong player who will surely explode, but he needs greater mental continuity,” Baroni said during a press conference ahead of Lazio’s UEFA Europa League (UEL) clash against Twente on Thursday.
“He came from a different kind of football, and it’s not easy to adapt to the speed of thought required in Serie A. He has the pace and physicality, but he must grow mentally, just like Tchaouna. These are players who need time, but unfortunately, we don’t have much time, and I don’t like to talk about it.”
Despite Baroni’s promise of a consistent playing time for Dele-Bashiru in August, the 23-year-old has been on the fringes in Lazio’s league campaign. However, he has featured in both of the club’s UEL matches, registering one goal and one assist.
