AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli and poster boy Rafael Leão have commended the efforts of Super Eagles’ Samuel Chukwueze in the club’s 2-1 win over Florentina on Saturday.
Two second-half goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Leão were enough for the Rossoneri to grind out a win despite Alfred Duncan’s 50th-minute equaliser at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence yesterday.
Although Chukwueze didn’t contribute directly to both Milan’s goals, the ex-Villarreal star who played 73 minutes was one of Pioli’s best players in their Serie A Matchday 30 game of the 2023/24 season.
The 24-year-old earned plaudits from his manager and teammate after he made two key passes, won four out of five duels, completed two out of three dribbles, created a big chance, and was denied one in the Devil’s victory at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
“The goal in Verona certainly did him (Chukuweze) a lot of good,” Pioli said.
“He is a very positive guy; he stayed with us and worked well during the break. Then I have to tell the truth: if Pulisic hadn’t confided to me yesterday that he was feeling a bit tired, I probably would have let Chris leave, but Chukwu deserved this opportunity, which he exploited very well.
“He is a player who will give us satisfaction because he has quality. He needed more time to settle in, but he knows what we want from him and what he can give to the team.”
Portuguese star Leão added, “When the team is good, I feel better.
“Today, I have to talk about Chukwueze because he played a great game; I’m very happy for him because he had delicate moments. I’m very happy for him.”
Milan will be looking to make it six wins in their six games when they host Leece at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro) on Saturday, March 6, 2024.
