The Super Falcons of Nigeria have booked their spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after rounding off the qualifying games with a goalless draw against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in Pretoria on Tuesday, April 9.
The draw consolidates the Falcons’ first leg 1-0 win over Banyana at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Friday, as they wrapped up their quest with a 1-0 win on aggregate.
Despite shots of warning from both camps ahead of the second leg, neither could find the back of the net at the Loftus Versfeld arena in what was a good outing for the goalkeepers—Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie and South Africa’s Kaylin Swart.
The Super Falcons’ qualification marks the end of a sixteen-year absence from the Olympic Games, validating coach Randy Waldrum’s claim of leading a generational team.
The eleven-time champions join Spain, Brazil and Japan in Group C of the 2024 Olympics Games which is poised to commence in France on July 26.
