Joel Obi grabbed a goal for Serie A side – Salernitana but wasn’t enough as they suffered a 3-1 to defeat to Premier League side Aston Villa during their pre-season friendly on Sunday.
Joel opened the scoring for the newly-promoted Salernitana in the 20th minute when a free-kick was nodded into his path and the former Chievo midfielder made no mistake with a close-range header.
Nadir Zortea almost grabbed another for the new comers, who are in their first Serie A campaign in over 20 years, but turned off target.
Before Danny Ings leveled the scores for Villa. Anwar El Ghazi then converted a penalty and former Man United star, Ashley Young scored to complete the 3-1 result.
He applied the finishing touches after a superb interchange from Matty Cash and Jacob Ramsey.
Joel Obi and his team mates will be facing Reggina next in Coppa Italia on Monday while their Serie A first game will be an away tie against Bologna on August 22.
