Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey are still basking in praises for their impressive performance in Fulham’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
It was a win made in Nigeria for Fulham who ended United’s unbeaten run in 2025 courtesy of goals from Bassey in the 65th, and Iwobi’s stoppage-time strike to cancel Harry Maguire’s 85th-minute equalizer.
The goal was the defender’s first in Fulham’s jersey, while Iwobi got his fourth league goal of the season in a grand style.
Iwobi’s winner equals Fulham’s 21-year-old goal feat at Old Trafford, as the midfielder became the first Cottager since Steed Malbranque in October 2003 to score a winning goal at the Theatre of Dreams.
Marco Silva, Fulham’s manager expressed his satisfaction in leading the club to their first victory at Old Trafford since 2003, acknowledging the pivotal roles of Iwobi and Bassey.
“Of course, it’s always an important moment (scoring your first goal). But not just him this afternoon. The two players (Bassey and Iwobi) were at the Africa Cup (of Nations). And that we miss them,” Silva told BeINSports.
“They were decisive in terms of the goal. It just shows how they are important for us in the way I want to play, in our way. It’s really nice to see both scoring goals and helping us to win.”
From the local scene, Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh also lauded the Fulham duo for their contributions to their club’s historic win against United.
“Extremely pleased for these 2 guys. Congrats IwoBass,” Oliseh posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Up next for Fulham and the Eagles stars will be a home fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion on March 2.
