Super Eagles’ Paul Onauchu is set to be sidelined for the next six weeks of action, following the multiple injuries he suffered while in action for Trabzonspor against Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday.
Onuachu who started the game for Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup quarter-final had to be replaced by Enis Destan in the 68th minute, as the Burgundy Blues secured a 1-0 victory over Basaksehir at Papara Park.
“In the examination of our football player Paul Onuachu, who was injured and left the game during the match of our Football A Team against RAMS Başakşehir, a muscle (adductor muscle group) injury in the left groin area and an undifferentiated bone (ulna) fracture in the left forearm due to an impact were detected,” Trabzonspor conveyed via their official website.
“Due to the fracture, our player was notified. A treatment program of at least 6 weeks will be applied. The treatment of our player has been started by our medical team,” the club’s statement concluded.
Currently on loan from Southampton, Onauchu has scored nine goals and assisted three in 19 appearances for Trabzonspor this season.
The 29-year-old becomes the latest Super Eagles star to be injured, following the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
He joins the likes of Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina, Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi and Vice-captain William Troost-Ekongw who are currently out injured in their respective clubs.
