Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Cyriel Dessers scored a brace against Hearts to send Rangers to the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park on Sunday.
Dessers scored in both halves of the clash, while his compatriot Leon Balogun returned to the Gers’ starting lineup for the first time since February.
A three-game winless stint before this semi-final clash has seen Rangers drop points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership race, but Dessers, after being picked out by Todd Cantwell, composedly gave Phillipe Clement’s side the best possible start.
About 33 minutes into the second half, the 29-year-old doubled his side’s lead, from his second attempt, after being denied from his first following a great pass from Cantwell.
The goal takes Desser’s tally to 19 goals in over 30 appearances across all competitions this season.
With the League Cup already secured, Dessers and Balogun—like Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella—could clinch a domestic treble when they meet Celtic in the final on May 25.
The Clement-tutored side has five games to bridge the three-point gap with Celtic in the league.
