Celtic striker Kelechi Iheanacho made a memorable impact in Belgrade, scoring his first Europa League breakthrough goal in the 1-1 draw against Crvena zvezda.
His sharp finish earned him praise from manager Brendan Rodgers, who described the strike as “outstanding” and highlighted the forward’s growing influence at the club.
Iheanacho’s Europa goal lights up Belgrade
The Nigerian forward came off the bench to open the scoring at the Rajko Mitic Stadium.
Collecting a precise pass from Benjamin Nygren, Iheanacho showed composure near the penalty spot before guiding the ball into the far corner — a finish that showed his trademark calmness under pressure.
Rodgers, speaking to TNT Sports via BBC, said: “I thought Kelechi Iheanacho’s goal was outstanding. I wanted us to be more proactive, but overall, it was a nice first step for us in the competition.”
Beyond the goal, Iheanacho’s presence gave Celtic a stronger platform in the second half.
Rodgers sees new spark in Celtic attack
Rodgers noted how the striker’s ability to hold up play and bring others into the game transformed their attacking flow.

“We needed someone centrally to hold the ball up,” Rodgers explained. “One of Kele’s great strengths is that he can take the ball in and progress us up the pitch.”
Signed on a free transfer this summer, Iheanacho has already scored twice and provided an assist in his first three appearances across all competitions.
His bright start has energised the Celtic support, who see him as a potential game-changer in Europe and domestically.
The draw leaves Celtic with optimism heading into the next Europa League clash. For Iheanacho, his form not only boosts his club but also builds a storyline of personal redemption.
On social media, he wrote: “European nights!! Gutted we didn’t get the win tonight, we go again next week. Thank you to our amazing fans for the support.”
