Taiwo Awoniyi, a Super Eagles attacker, netted for Union Berlin in a 1-1 draw with VFB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The 24-year-old grabbed his 11th goal of the season but it wasn’t enough to help Urs Fischer clinch all three points at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

The hosts came into the game wanting to avenge a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wolfsburg away from home.

Stuttgart was also eager to extend their winning streak after a 3-2 win over Monchengladbach the previous weekend.

Just four minutes to first half break, the Super Eagles forward put his team ahead with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner.

Before Sasa Kalajdzic’s late strike earned a point for the visitors. The Austrian sealed the draw with a stunning strike in stoppage time.

Union Berlin is presently in seventh position with 38 points and will be facing league leaders – Bayern Munich on Saturday.

While Stuttgart will be hoping to get out of relegation zone when they battle Augsburg next.
