Victor Boniface, according to Bayer Leverkusen’s manager Xabi Alonso is recovering fast from injury and is edging closer to full fitness, following the striker’s injury setback in January.
Boniface hit the ground running after signing for Leverkusen last summer, registering ten goals and seven assists in 16 appearances for the Die Werkself, only to be pegged back by an injury layoff whilst on international duties with Nigeria.
The striker sustained an abductor injury during Nigeria’s preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and had to undergo an immediate surgery that has kept him on the sidelines hitherto.
Reacting to Boniface’s recovery ahead of Leverkusen’s league game against Koln on Sunday, Alonso said, “His (Boniface) development is very good, the recovery is going in the right direction. That’s very positive.
“We expect Boniface soon, I don’t know, but it won’t be until May, maybe April, and that’s very good for us, having Boniface back.
“Boni works very well, with great professionalism, twice a day. We need players who have the desire to be back,” the manager concluded, as reported by Bild.
Currently, on the course of winning their first Bundesliga title, Bayern Leverkusen can go ten points clear of Bayern Munich on Sunday, if they secure the maximum points against Koln.
