Afcon 2021: Egypt, Gabon’s camp hit with coronavirus cases

Egypt’s departure for Afcon 2022 competition in Cameroon was delayed on Friday and they were forced to abandon their training as coronavirus infections were discovered in their camp.

On Saturday, the Pharaohs, who have won the tournament a remarkable seven times, travelled to Cameroon.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal’s forward was one of two Gabon players who tested positive on Thursday.

Guinea’s defender Mikael Dyrestam, midfielder Morlaye Sylla, and forward Seydouba Soumah were compelled to abandon their training facility in Rwanda.

Last week, multiple positive tests were recorded from Cape Verde and debutants Gambia, while Tunisia also confirmed cases of Covid-19 from their pre-tournament training.
