The Teranga Lions needed to wait until the dying minutes of additional time to claim maximum points in the opening Group B game, which was a tense finish.

Senegal defeated Zimbabwe 1-0 in their opening match at the 2021 African Cup of Nations, thanks to a last-minute penalty by Sadio Mane.

At the Stade Omnisports de Bafoussam, it was an end-to-end start, with both sides’ defences proving difficult to breach for the most of the game.

After Kelvin Madzongwe obstructed Pape Gueye’s effort with his hand in the 94th minute of stoppage time, the referee quickly signalled to the penalty spot.

And Mane converted his 27th goal for Senegal to hand them all 3 points.

Meanwhile, the Group C game between Morocco and Ghana also ended 1-0, with Boufal scoring the only goal.

The Angers forward was considered the match’s hero in a tight clash between the Atlas Lions and the Black Stars in Yaounde.

Morocco defeated Ghana 1-0 in their opening game of the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The Atlas Lions won the Group C match at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, thanks to Sofiane Boufal’s late goal.

As a result, the North Africans have seized an early lead on the table, ahead of Comoros and Gabon’s second group tie.
