In a thrilling turn of events at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, Guinea made a strong comeback in their second round match against Congo Republic.
The match, held at the Prince Moulay Sports Complex in Rabat on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, showcased Guinea’s determination and skill.
After suffering a disappointing 1-2 defeat against the host nation, Morocco, in their first group match, Guinea bounced back with a resounding 3-1 victory over Congo Republic.

In Guinea’s match against Congo Republic, the opening goal came from the talented Aguibou Camara in the tenth minute of the first half.
Yannne Ngatse of Congo Republic equalized in the 40th minute, but Jacque Bowamba swiftly restored Guinea’s lead in the 54th minute.
To make matters worse for Congo Republic, their goalkeeper Dhody Fontou received a red card in the 72nd minute, leaving them with ten men on the field.
Guinea capitalized on this advantage, with Salifou Soumah scoring in the 84th minute to secure their third goal and a final score of 3-1 in favor of Guinea.
In the second match of Group A, Yanis Begraoui shone for Morocco, scoring two goals and assisting in another.
Morocco’s dominant performance resulted in a convincing 5-1 victory over Ghana. Begraoui’s contributions in the 29th and 53rd minutes, along with Ismael Saibari’s goal in the 14th minute, solidified Morocco’s dominance.
Despite Salim Adams pulling one back for Ghana in the 42nd minute, the first half ended with a 1-3 scoreline favoring Morocco.
Abdessamad Ezzalzouli added to the tally with a goal in the 48th minute of the second half. This victory cemented Morocco’s position at the top of Group A.
In other U-23 Africa Cup of Nations news, Egypt, the defending champions, will face Mali at Ibn Batuta Stadium in Tangier in a crucial Group B match later today.
With Mali currently leading Group B and Egypt and Niger Republic vying for second place, this match promises to be an intense battle.
