Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen have been instrumental in the 2024/25 season, each contributing 14 league goals to fuel Atalanta and Galatasaray’s title bids. As transfer talks intensify, Taye Taiwo weighs in on what the future holds for the Super Eagles stars.
Super Eagles legend Taye Taiwo has addressed the transfer possibilities for Super Eagles stars Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen ahead of the winter transfer market.
During the summer transfer window, both players attracted interest from top European clubs. However, Lookman remained with Atalanta, while Osimhen secured a loan to Galatasaray after falling out with Napoli.
With the winter transfer window set to open across Europe on January 1, 2025, Taiwo spoke to Afrik Foot, highlighting the opportunities and challenges ahead for the players.
“The situation with Lookman and Atalanta is tricky. The club is in a great position to win Serie A, so they will be reluctant to part ways with their star player,’’ he said.
“However, if you think in terms of financial benefits, the timing is perfect. He is one of the most high-profile players in Europe, and many clubs would do anything to sign him.
Turning his attention to Osimhen, Taiwo added, “Victor is back to his best and is ready to return to the big leagues.
“Several teams are looking to strengthen their attack, and he should be at the top of their list. Right now, the market is more favourable than in the summer, and Napoli are willing to sell. If Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal approach him, he should seize the opportunity.
Both players have delivered impressive performances this season. Lookman has registered nine goals and four assists in 14 Serie A matches for Atalanta, while Osimhen boasts nine goals and three assists in 11 Super Lig appearances for Galatasaray.
The 2023 and 2024 CAF Player of the Year winners have been pivotal to their teams’s title charge in the 2024/25 season. Atalanta currently leads Serie A with 40 points, two clear of second-placed Napoli after 17 matches. Likewise, Galatasaray sits atop the Turkish Süper Lig with 44 points, holding an eight-point advantage over second-placed Fenerbahçe.
