The Super Eagles man rocked his opponents late in the game to score his 20th goal of the season in Union Berlin’s home win against Bochum on Saturday.

The 24-year-old scored a brace as well as the match-winning goal to lead Union Berlin to a 3-2 victory against Bochum.

Grischa Promel, who made his final appearance for the club scored the first goal for the hosts barely five minutes into the game.

Awoniyi then doubled the lead with a spectacular penalty kick 20 minutes later.

Six minutes into the second half, the Nigerian forward almost doubled his score, but his shot from the left side of the six yard box was an inch wide.

Four minutes later, Simon Zoller produced a stunning header to get his team back into the game.

Union Berlin pushed for a third goal, only for Bochum equalise 79 minutes into the game through Eduard Löwen, who tied the game at 2-2.

Before Awoniyi finally scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute, his 20th goal of the season in all competitions.

The Urs Fischer’s team held on to the 3-2 lead until the final whistle to secure the victory and all three points at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

The win put Union Berlin just one point behind fourth-placed RB Leipzig, who have 58 points as they sealed their position in the Europa League for the first time in 20 years, while Bochum remain in 12th place with 42 points.
