The 24-year-old Nigerian surpasses Max Kruse as Union Berlin’s all-time leading scorer in the German Bundesliga, with 13 goals.
Union Berlin is in its third season in Germany’s top flight, and Taiwo Awoniyi has become the Bundesliga’s side all-time leading scorer.
The attacker has been crucial for the German team, netting eight goals in 12 games this season and five goals last season while on loan from Liverpool.
His goal in the Berlin derby this past weekend was his second of the season.
The Super Eagles forward scored in the eighth minute to inspire the Urs Fischer side to a 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin, keeping them in fifth place in the league rankings with 20 points from 12 games.
