Pisa’s young midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro is drawing attention to himself after delivering a commanding performance in the club’s hard-fought draw with Fiorentina on Sunday.
The 20-year-old Super Eagles prospect is determined to build on his early-season momentum and guide the Serie A newcomers toward top-flight survival.
Akinsanmiro inspires Pisa against Fiorentina
At the Stadio Romeo Anconetani, Akinsanmiro showed maturity beyond his age.
The Inter Milan loanee was the heartbeat of Pisa’s midfield, dictating the tempo with crisp passing and relentless pressing.
He won the most duels in the game, completed an impressive 94% of his passes, and drew the highest number of fouls from Fiorentina players.
His efforts earned him the Man-of-the-Match award, a personal milestone in only his third Serie A start for Pisa.
Speaking after the game, Akinsanmiro said:
“We played with great determination and deserved more from the match. It was a tough midfield battle, but I’m very happy to be the best on the pitch for the first time and hope to repeat it.”

Rising form boosts Pisa’s survival hopes
Akinsanmiro’s emergence has come at a crucial time for Pisa, who are fighting to stay afloat in Italy’s top division.
The former Remo Stars midfielder, on loan for a second consecutive season after a spell at Sampdoria, has started three of Pisa’s five league matches this term.
His energy and resilience in midfield have given Pisa a new sense of balance and confidence.
As the club secured only their second point of the campaign against Fiorentina, Akinsanmiro’s performance offered hope that the team can turn a difficult start into a steady climb up the table.
With Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle also monitoring his progress, the young midfielder’s displays could earn him an instant senior international call-up.
