Senegal have progressed to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals after defeating Cape Verde in Bafoussam on Tuesday.

In a passionate encounter, the West Africans required two second-half goals to subdue the Islanders.

Senegal’s hopes for a first Africa Cup of Nations title was boosted by a 2-0 Round of 16 win over Cape Verde at Bafoussam, thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Bamba Dieng.

The Aliou Cissé side only managed to score one goal in the group stage, which came from a penalty kick against Zimbabwe.

Following a 2-1 victory over Malawi in Tuesday’s Round of 16 match at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, Morocco are through to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

Youssef En-Nesyri and Achraf Hakimi led Morocco’s gallant comeback to motivate their team to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

Early in the game, the North Africans were stunned with a goal, but they fought their way back to secure a win.

Frank Mhango’s seventh-minute goal for Malawi’s fantastic attack was quickly cancelled out by En-Nesyri in first-half stoppage time before Hakimi scored the game-winning goal with 20 minutes remaining.

The Atlas Lions will now face the winner of Wednesday’s match between Egypt and Ivory Coast, while Malawi should be proud of themselves for making it to the Afcon knockout stage for the first time.
