Nigerian international – Sadiq Umar scored his 18th league goal of the season to help USD Almeria gain promotion to the Spanish La Liga.
Leganes held Almeria to a 2-2 draw on Sunday evening in what was dubbed “a showdown of the Super Eagles stars.” Both Kenneth Omeruo and Umar Sadiq scored for Leganes.
After Leganes’ Borja Garces and Almeria’s Rodrigo Ely scored goals in the opening quarter of an hour, Omeruo appeared from nowhere to give Leganes the lead minutes before the break.
The 28-year-old defender scored his second goal of the season, and his first since Leganes beat Malaga 2-0 in December.
But the Nigerian striker and former AS Roma phenomenon, came back to save the day soon after the interval, scoring his side’s equalizer.
Unfortunately, the draw was inadequate because the top three teams in the league all had 81 points at the time, with Eibar’s higher head-to-head lead putting Almeria in third place.

After denying Almeria a vital victory last weekend, rock bottom Alcorcon proved to be the spoilers yet again, grabbing a late winner to upset Eibar 1-0.
Almeria needed only that to catch up to their opponents and finish the season as league leaders and second division winners.
Umar Sadiq and his teammates were ecstatic at the final whistle, with the Super Eagles attacker on his way to attaining his dream of playing in the Spanish top flight.
