Watford starman, Emmanuel Dennis, has been ruled out of the Afcon after his club refused to release him for the tournament.
According to the Watford Observer, the NFF failed to warn the Hornets during the time allotted for sending a precall message, and Watford was not given enough time to prepare for Emmanuel Dennis’ departure in January.
Slavia Prague forward Peter Olayinka will take his spot in place of the 24-year-old.
“The national team has time to send the pre-calls [call ups], they don’t respect the days. The email arrived late to pre-call [Dennis]. Do you know what I mean? The national team has a time, during this time, they have to send the pre-call. If they don’t send the pre-call, we can choose,” Watford manager, Claudio Ranieri said.
Meanwhile, Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has been shut out of AFCON 2021 as well.
Earlier this week, the 23-year-old forward, who is still suffering from a face injury, tested positive for Covid-19.
Olympiakos forward Henry Onyekuru will also take Osimhen’s place.
