Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu once again captivated Trabzonspor fans with a spectacular display against Karagumruk at the Ataturk Stadium on Saturday.
His first goal—a perfectly executed overhead kick—grabbed the headlines, yet the 31-year-old insists it isn’t the finest strike of his career.
Onuachu’s stunning overhead kick steals the show
Trabzonspor found themselves trailing early, but Onuachu’s clinical finishing helped his team overturn the deficit before halftime.
The Super Eagles star reacted fastest to a Wagner Pina cross, sending the ball soaring past the goalkeeper in a breathtaking overhead effort.
A lot of fans, even pundits, hailed it as a “goal of the season” contender.
Yet for Onuachu, the moment, while memorable, doesn’t top his personal highlight reel.
The goal that truly defines Onuachu
Reflecting on his career, Onuachu pointed to his strike against Konyaspor last year, which earned a Puskas Award nomination and finished 10th.

“I watched the goal I scored again… It was good, but I can say the goal I scored against Konyaspor was better than the goal I scored today,” he said, per Fanatik.
While Saturday’s effort thrilled the crowd, Paul Onuachu acknowledged that overhead kicks, even stunning ones, are increasingly common in leagues worldwide.
To be considered for another Puskas nod, the striker knows he’ll need an even more extraordinary display.
Despite the focus on individual brilliance, Onuachu emphasised team success.
“I’m happy the team won, and I’m even more happy that I scored. It was a good match for us today,” he added.
