At the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Victor Osimhen scored twice to help Napoli come back from a goal down to defeat Udinese 2-1.
Osimhen made Serie A history with Napoli, following the lead of George Weah, Samuel Eto’o, and Mohamed Salah.
He is the only Nigerian player in Serie A history to net double digits for Napoli in two straight seasons.
The only Africans who have achieved this distinction in the Italian top flight are Weah for Milan, Eto’o for Inter, and Mo Salah for Roma.
Osimhen has indeed outdone his debut season in Serie A, in which he scored 10 goals in 24 appearances.
Udinese took a spectacular lead after 22 minutes, when Gerard Deulofeu scored a beautiful goal from the edges of the box, thanks to a brilliant through ball by Roberto Pereyra.
The Partenopei had the best chance of the first half when Lorenzo Insigne’s looping shot from the edge of the box went inches wide of the far post.
Luciano Spalletti made a tactical change at halftime, and it paid off, as his team was level ten minutes into the second half, thanks to Osimhen, who headed in at the back post following a free-kick to get his team back into the game.
After receiving a low cross from Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Osimhen doubled his tally with an easy tap-in from within the box just ten minutes later, completing the comeback for the home side.
Despite having played one game more than their championship opponents, the win draws Napoli level on points with AC Milan at the top of Serie A.
