Moses Simon earned plaudits from head coach Antoine Kombouaré for his performance in Nantes’ 2-0 win over Auxerre on Sunday.
Antoine Kombouaré, head coach of FC Nantes, has praised the impact of Moses Simon in his team after the Super Eagles winger inspired the club to a 2-0 Ligue 1 victory over AJ Auxerre on Sunday, August 25.
Simon had a disappointing end to the 2023/24 season after sustaining an injury in Nigeria’s friendly against Mali in March. After months on the sidelines, the 29-year-old announced his return with a clinical 14th-minute strike in Nantes’ win on Sunday.
“He [Simon] gives strength and energy to his teammates when he is on the pitch. He knows how to speak out because he is small but has a lot of character; he does not let people walk all over him,” Kombouaré told Tribune Nantaise.
Though Simon scored three goals and provided six assists in 22 Ligue 1 matches last season, Kombouaré emphasised that the Nigerian must remain consistent to continue being effective for the team.
“You have a team with Simon and without Simon, but he has to prove it again this season,” the 60-year-old added. “What he did in previous seasons was good; he made himself indispensable at times, he made himself important, but we have to reset the counters to zero.”
During his 78 minutes of action on Sunday, Simon created two chances, registered two shots on target, and completed 16 of 22 passes.
The former Levante forward is expected to be included in the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda in September.
