García Pimienta, Sevilla head coach, has hinted at the possibility of Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke making their debut for the Rojiblancos against Villarreal on Friday, August 23
Ejuke joined Sevilla from CSKA Moscow earlier in the transfer window, while Iheanacho followed suit after his contract with Leicester City expired. Both Super Eagles forwards missed the Rojiblancos’ La Liga opener against Las Palmas last weekend.
While Ejuke was an unused substitute in Sevilla’s first game, Iheanacho wasn’t included in the matchday squad due to registration issues that have now been resolved. “Ejuke is doing very well,” Pimienta explained during his pre-match press conference.
“The other day, he didn’t come in because of our decision, considering the state of the team. Tomorrow, if necessary, he will help the team.”
“For tomorrow, we will have practically the entire squad except for Suso, who is injured. We want the team to be recognisable and to play as equals regardless of the opponent. Tomorrow we play at home,” Pimienta added.
Meanwhile, Iheanacho and Ejuke will be aiming to make a lasting impact at Sevilla as the first-ever Nigerians to represent the club.
“It’s the first time having Nigerians in the team, so hopefully it will bring good luck to the team, and we’ll give our best for the club and the fans,” the ex-Leicester City striker said following the completion of his move.
“I think we’re happy to be at Sevilla, and I know Nigerians are happy as well. So hopefully we enjoy it, and it will be a good one.”
