Rangers made it 2-0 just before halftime, thanks to a rowdy crowd inside Ibrox, when Tavernier scored from the penalty spot. After Vitor Tormena was dismissed, Braga was reduced to eleven men.
Roofe thought he had scored again, but after a VAR review, his effort was wiped out for offside, but they looked to have done enough to progress in normal time.
That was until late in the game, when David Carmo’s header forced extra time despite Braga’s overwhelming disadvantage.
Rangers were disappointed, but they fought back and eventually took the lead, with Roofe scoring after excellent work from Glen Kamara and Super Eagles player Joe Aribo.
Braga put up a brave fight, but their prospects of forcing penalties were harmed when they were down to nine men after Yuri Medeiros was given his marching orders.
Rangers put up a fantastic show, demonstrating amazing passion throughout and reaching their first European semi-final in 14 years.
Two of Aribo’s Super Eagles colleagues, Calvin Bassey and Leon Balogun, also played for Rangers, who won the tie 3-2 on aggregate.
