Nigeria’s Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke says he’s looking forward to an invitation back to the team, after sealing a move to Spanish La Liga side Sevilla on Monday, June 17.
Ejuke signed a three-year deal with Sevilla on a free transfer from side Royal Antwerp, after scoring three goals and registering four assists in 21 league matches for the Belgian side last season.
His move to Sevilla not only makes him their first signing of the season, but he also becomes the first-ever Nigerian to sign for the club.
“It is special to be the first Nigerian here. I think I feel good being part of this team and I am looking forward to seeing what I can contribute to the team,” Ejuke told Sevilla’s media.
“I also hope to be able to go back to Nigeria, because obviously, it’s always nice to represent your country, so I hope it’s time to do it again and I’m also very excited.”
The 26-year-old made his debut for Nigeria in 2020 under Genort Rohr. He has since earned six appearances for the three-time African champions with no goal contribution so far.
He hopes to get back to playing top football in the Spanish League which he described as one of the best in the world.
“I think the Spanish league is one of the best leagues in the world. You see a lot of quality players, a lot of quality teams. It’s a little different compared to other teams and other countries. But I think the Spanish league is known for its good football. And this is what I’m looking forward to,” the ex-Gombe United forward said.
