Dean Jones, a football transfer expert at Sportslens has urged the management of Leicester City to sever ties with Super Eagles’ Kelechi Iheanacho in the summer transfer window.
Iheanacho joined Leicester from Manchester City in 2017, and signed a three-year contract renewal with the Foxes in April 2021, after scoring 32 goals in his first 117 appearances for the club.
“It’s been really great being here. It’s like a family. I’m happy being here and hopefully, I can stay here many more years,” the 27-year-old told Leicester Media at the time.
However, the Nigerian’s hopes took a nosedive when Leicester were relegated to the English Championship last season, as many pundits tipped the club to cut their losses by selling some of their highest earners, including Iheanacho.
As it turned out, the Eagle was considered to be an integral part of the Foxes’ Championship promotion season. The striker has, however, scored six goals in 25 league appearances for Enzo Maresca’s side this season, after failing to lay claim to a starting role.
“It looks like he will leave Leicester, and at the moment, the most likely path for him to take is to Turkey,” Jones reacted to Iheanacho’s form in a conversation with GIVEMESPORT.
With his contract set to expire in June, the transfer expert believes it’ll be disadvantageous for Leicester to renew his contract, given his performances.
“From a Leicester point of view, keeping him doesn’t seem a wise move as he is one of the higher earners in that side, and he has only started ten games in a season when they are going for a Championship promotion.
“Trabzonspor are one of the teams for him, and these sorts of options might have to become very real, even though it seems to be early in his career,” he concluded.
