Super Eagles star Christantus Uche is yet to start a game for Crystal Palace, but his name has already been a subject of conversation around Selhurst Park recently.
Ahead of the Eagles’ Premier League clash with West Ham United, the team manager Oliver Glasner revealed that the Nigerian midfielder could be used in a more advanced role—either alongside or in place of Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The hint has added fresh intrigue to Palace’s attacking options this season.
Glasner Opens the Door for Christantus Uche
Mateta has been the club’s main striker so far, starting all eight matches for the FA Cup winners this term.
But Glasner suggested change might be coming, telling the club’s official website: “Yes, he could be. He’s also physical. He’s an option that we are considering.”
That option is Uche, who joined Crystal Palace on deadline day and has since made brief substitute appearances in the Premier League clash against Sunderland and in the Carabao Cup game with Millwall.

Still searching for his first start of the season, the Nigerian international could now be on the verge of a bigger breakthrough.
Why Uche Could Change Palace’s Attack
Traditionally a No. 10, Uche thrives when linking midfield with attack, finding space, and creating opportunities.
His comfort on the ball and vision make him a natural playmaker. But his physical presence also gives Palace something different — a forward who can hold up play and bring others into the game higher up the pitch.
It’s a role he adapted to at Getafe last season, where he combined flair with efficiency, scoring four goals and delivering seven assists across 38 matches.
That balance of creativity and productivity could offer Glasner a fresh tactical card to play.
If the Palace boss follows through on his hint, fans could soon see a new dynamic partnership or even a bold reshuffle in the team’s system.
