With just one goal contribution for eighth-placed AC Milan, Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has been singled out by Fabio Capello as a major reason behind the Rossoneri’s struggles after 15 games.
Fabio Capello, former Real Madrid head coach and AC Milan legend, has highlighted Samuel Chukwueze’s underwhelming performances at Milan as one of the major reasons behind the Rossoneri’s struggles.
Following a disappointing debut season in 2023/24, where Chukwueze managed just three goals and one assist in 24 Serie A appearances, the 2024/25 campaign has proven to be no better for the 25-year-old. Despite a promising pre-season, the Super Eagles winger has scored only once in 15 league outings, as Milan languishes in eighth place.
Commenting on Milan’s fortunes, Capello said, “I think that a tall attacking winger capable of making a difference was essential. In the past, Milan has always leaned heavily on the left side of attack, and it would have been useful to balance that with a similar player on the right. Unfortunately, Chukwueze has never really clicked, and there is no alternative with similar characteristics.”
Meanwhile, Italian journalist Alessandro Jacobone has reported that Aston Villa is interested in bringing Chukwueze to the English Premier League.
According to Jacobone, Villa is reportedly working on a swap deal that would see their £ 15 million-rated youngster, Jaden Philogene, join Milan, while Chukwueze heads to Villa Park.
If the deal materialises, Chukwueze will reunite with Unai Emery, his former head coach during their relatively fruitful time at Spanish La Liga side Villarreal.
