Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder Frank Onyeka has urged his compatriot Victor Osimhen to consider a move to the English Premier League (EPL) as the summer transfer window approaches.
Onyeka who plies his trade with EPL side Brentford underlined Osimhen’s strong mentality to Sky Sports UK and spoke about the idea of seeing the Napoli striker in the EPL.
Having signed a new contract that contains about a €130m release clause with Napoli, Osimhen is expected to leave the Italian side this summer, with sources linking him to top English clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea.
In his chat with Sky Sports UK, Onyeka was asked what it was like to represent Nigeria alongside Osimhen at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the possibility of the striker joining Brentford.
“No, no, no! He’s too expensive!” Onyeka retorted.
“He’s a really good guy but he’s someone that wants to win. He doesn’t like to lose, even in training. He always wants to push players around him, try to encourage them. He’s a fighter.
“He’s always there to help the team, fight for the team. Even when the team is down he’ll be the first man to push the team. He never gives up. For me, he was one of the best players in the tournament but people don’t really see what he does.
“Hopefully he comes to the Premier League.”
Osimhen is Napoli’s leading goalscorer this season, with 11 goals and three assists across 16 league matches despite being away between January and February for the AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
