Nigerian striker Akor Adams finally opened his Sevilla goal account with a late, decisive strike that secured a gritty 1-0 La Liga win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
The 25-year-old forward, whose early weeks in Spain have been hampered by injuries since arriving from France’s Ligue 1, stepped off the bench at the Estadio de Vallecas to produce the breakthrough moment Sevilla had been searching for.
Late impact seals Sevilla’s third straight away win
Adams had gone five league matches and 306 minutes without scoring, despite registering an assist earlier in the season. But on his sixth appearance, he needed just 18 minutes to make the difference.
Introduced in the 69th minute to replace Isaac Romero, the Nigerian striker turned the game on its head with his sharp movement and composure.
With Rayo Vallecano dominating possession and creating the better chances for much of the night, Sevilla stayed alive thanks to goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, who made several crucial saves to keep the match level.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 87th minute when substitute José Ángel Carmona whipped in a pinpoint cross.

Adams reacted quickest, meeting the ball with a clinical right-footed finish — Sevilla’s only shot on target — to silence the home crowd.
A turning point for Akor Adams and Sevilla
The goal not only ended Adams’ personal drought but also lifted Sevilla to their third straight away league victory, propelling them into the top half of the table.
His composed strike extended Sevilla’s unbeaten run against Rayo Vallecano to six matches and hinted at a potential turning point in his season as he looks to cement his place as a regular goal-scoring threat.
The performance will also encourage Sevilla manager and supporters, who have been eager to see the summer signing repay their faith after a slow start marked by fitness setbacks.
