Playing in an advanced role for Leicester City, Wilfred Ndidi has registered four assists in seven matches for the Foxes. However, the 27-year-old is keeping his options open with the Super Eagles.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi has declared his readiness to play any position under interim head coach Austine Eguavoen, as the team intensifies preparations for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya on Friday, October 11.
There has been an ongoing debate over Ndidi’s most effective role following his impressive run as an attacking midfielder for Leicester City in the 2024/25 English Premier League (EPL) season. Traditionally a defensive midfielder, Ndidi has registered four assists in seven matches in his advanced role for the Foxes.
Speaking about his position in the national team, the 27-year-old told Brilla media, “For me, it’s not my decision to say I want to play in this position. I just leave it open to the managers and the coaches to actually decide where they want me to play.
“I’m very open to play in any position as long as it’s helping the team. So that’s me as a player, I’m very open to play in any position on the pitch.”
Currently top of Group D with four points after two games, the Super Eagles will aim to solidify their position when they host bottom-placed Libya at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
“We’re very much ready,” Ndidi added. “We trained well yesterday. There were some delayed and canceled flights, but everyone came together yesterday, and we’re very much ready for the games.”
After Friday’s clash, the three-time African champions will face the Mediterranean Knights again at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi on Tuesday, October 15.
