Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has declared the Super Eagles of Nigeria capable of ousting Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final clash slated for 6 pm (WAT) at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan on Friday.

Lookman, whose brace secured Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Rigobert Song’s Cameroon in the round of 16, emphasized the team’s relentless pursuit of the AFCON trophy— a dream that can only be materialised if the three-time African champions get the better of the Palancas Negras tomorrow.

Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman celebrates one of his goals against Cameroon in their AFCON 2023 Round of 16 clash.

Speaking with journalists ahead of the Angola clash, the 26-year-old said, “We have worked so hard to get to this stage of the competition and we will continue pushing hard to achieve our objective.

“The objective for us is to go back home with the trophy. We know we are not there yet, but it is something that is achievable.

“We know how strong the Angola team is even before the start of this competition. They have done well here and they have a lot of quality players in their squad.

“We will play with the same intensity and fight like we did in the previous game. I don’t see them stopping us,” he concluded.

The match against Cameroon was Lookman’s 8th cap for the Super Eagles of Nigeria with the brace being his first set for the African giants, with an assist in the game against Equatorial Guinea. He was also awarded Man of the Match after the game against the Indomitable Lions.

Lookman, born in London, has appeared for the Nerrazzuri 23 times scoring a total of 7 goals and 3 assists in the Serie A and Europa League in the 2023/2024 season. In the 2022/2023 season, the former Leicester City forward scored 13 goals and provided 6 assists in 31 appearances in the Serie A for Atalanta who currently sit 4th on the log behind Inter, Juventus, and AC Milan.
