The 24-year-old opened scoring for Brendan Rodgers side with his sixth goal of the season in their English Premier League matchday 33 fixture against Newcastle United.

Newcastle was 10 points clear of the relegation zone going into the game, and a win was required to maintain their league status.

Their opponents have won their last five games in all competitions, including a 2-1 Europa League Conference League victory over PSV in midweek that pushed them to the semi-finals.

Last weekend, they beat Crystal Palace by the same scoreline in the league to move up to ninth place.

The Foxes took an early lead through Ademola Lookman after a superb set piece play 19 minutes into the game at St James’ Park, with both teams equal at halftime.

Newcastle rallied, and Bruno Guimaraes equalized after a fight in the six-yard box between himself and Schmeichel finished with Guimaraes putting the ball into the net after half an hour.

The goal was initially signaled, however VAR demanded that the referee review the film, and as a consequence, a goal was awarded.

In the first half, Leicester played well, but after their equalizer, Newcastle seemed the better team and created more chances.

Guimaraes finished off a superb counter-attack in stoppage time to give Newcastle all three points.

Newcastle goes up to 14th place in the rankings, assuring their survival with a 12-point advantage over Burnley.

The next match is against Crystal Palace in the middle of the week. Leicester, on the other hand, is still in seventh place and has a game against Everton on Wednesday.
