What Next For Kelechi Iheanacho ????

By Lanre Banjoko:

Once touted to be better than Rashford , just over two years ago . Kelechi’s England sojourn started on a very impressive note. Then manager of city ,Pellegrini believed so much in this teen-star he sold established striker Eden Dzeko to As Roma .

Kelechi grabbed his chance with both hands churning out quality performances every-time he was called upon. His first EPL goal against Crystal Palace earned City maximum points marked a turning point in his Career . A return of 16 goals in just 18 starts breezed him into limelight .

A lukewarm season meant Pellegrini and City parted ways at the end of the season . Pep was contracted to lead the citizens, this switch soon proved to put a dent on Kelechi’s career at City . Pep brought-in Jesus in January from Palmerias the Brazilian knocked Kelechi out of reckoning with the Nigerian barely having game minutes has the season came to a halt. With the writing clearly on the wall,Kelechi’s City career was over! A host of clubs jostled for his signature with the likes of West Ham and Leicester City leading the pack. Iheanacho opted to join the Foxes after a long summer of speculations as regards where he’ll end up. To be fair , i personally had serious reservations about his move to Leicester City ;their style of play is pre-dominantly route-one,a style well suited for their top Man “Jaime Vardy” . A team with a fluid game play would have been more ideal , Iheanacho is a fox in the box blessed with an attacking instinct that dwarfs his young age, still needs to improve his all round gameplay including his hold-up play . Unfortunately Leicester is not that club , Claude Puel only this week admitted he (Kelechi) is 4th choice as regards his attacking choice!!

What next for Kelechi???

I am a big fan of this lad he is everything but not a bad player as some are touting him to be. Flash back to November when the Eagles played Argentina in a pre-world cup tune up game. Kelechi was in vintage form assisting two goals and scoring an expertly taking free-kick to earn the Super Eagles a win against their South-American opposition. This development lays credence to the fact that this kid is not done yet, so what next???

A move away from Leicester City is non-negotiable ,Besiktas is being mentioned after they sold their star striker “Tosun” . Besiktas ,coached by veteran Turkish coach “Senol Gunes” a man famed for his knack of getting the best out of strikers . As a fan and a partizan Eagles supporter a switch to a title challenging side and a team in the UCL is a big yes for me, Besiktas play fluid football with decent players (Quaresma,Babel,Talisca,Adriano,Pepe and Nagredo) in their fold .With Genort Rohr sounding out a note if warning for bench warmer, Kelechi Iheanacho should make that switch as a matter of urgency!!
