Barcelona and Spain goalkeeper Victor Valdes has undergone a successful surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament.
The 32-year-old will be sidelined until October after going under the knife in Germany on Monday.
“The knee’s internal cartilage has been sewn up and the operation was concluded successfully,” Barcelona said in a statement.
Valdes will miss the upcoming World Cup in Brazil as a result, meaning that Iker Casillas and Pepe Reina will be left to battle for Spain’s number one jersey at the event.
The keeper’s stay at Barcelona has also been brought to a premature end, with Valdes having already confirmed he will be leaving the Catalan outfit at the end of the season after more than a decade at the club.
