Strootman to complete move to Manchester United

Roma midfielder, Kevin Strootman will likely complete a transfer to Manchester United at the end of the season, reuniting with his former international manager Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

This is the opinion of Stuart Mathieson, Manchester United reporter for the Manchester Evening News, who believes the club are far more likely to recruit Strootman in the summer transfer window rather than the winter period.

Strootman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since it emerged that Van Gaal would succeed David Moyes at the club, and there has been frequent speculation that he will indeed become a Manchester United player.

Van Gaal has been keen to recruit a combative midfield player and Strootman would appear to tick the boxes. The 24-year-old was a favourite of Van Gaal during his time with the Netherlands, and may well have moved to Manchester in the summer were it not for a long-term knee injury.

All signs point towards an eventual deal for Strootman, even if Roma maintain they do not want to sell the £30 million-rated man, and Mathieson’s comments and to a growing sense that he will become a Manchester United player.

It is unlikely the club will spend significantly in January given the £150 million outlay following Van Gaal’s arrival, so a proposed deal for Strootman in the following window would seem to make the most sense.

Earlier this week it was claimed by Dutch journalist Hugo Borst that Strootman and Van Gaal had already shaken hands on a move, with Manchester United now required to negotiate a fee with Roma.
