South African national team has been left with a bitter pill to swallow after one of her star midfielder, Keagan Dolly has been confirmed injured and will miss the 2019 AFCON tourney which will be held in June, In Egypt.
The 26 year old, who is in the books of Montpellier suffered a groin strain on the eve of South Africa’s COSAFA CUP clash with Botswana and according to the medical team, Dolly has will be sidelined for at least a month.
“The technical team will make a call on a replacement but Keagan is definitely out. He is an important player but we can’t risk it and make his injury worse,” an insider told Sowetan.
Baxter stopped short of ruling Dolly out but confirmed that a decision will be made soon.
“In the first training he felt it and it hasn’t got better. What we don’t want is to land in Egypt and suddenly we are missing a player, so we will deal with it now,” he said.
South African coach, Stuart Baxter has not yet named a replacement for Dolly, with the now 29 man squad set to be cut to 23 by the 11th of June.
