The goalkeeper was guilty of a blunder that allowed the Liberians nick a draw in Saturday’s Afcon qualifier in Monrovia
Nigeria all but ran away with a well-deserved victory in Monrovia against Liberia in Saturday’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualification first leg game.┬á
After Nosa Igiebor had cancelled out the early effort of the hosts, and Ikechukwu Uche’s penalty kick had given the Super Eagles an important lead, goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama proved the AchillesÔÇÖ heel of the team when he allowed Sekou Oliseh score in the second half.┬á
This means that Nigeria will need to avoid a defeat when they play the return leg in Calabar next month.
Enyeama has been an important player for Nigeria in the past decade. He has been the stalwart in goal for the team through thick and thin. However, his performances in the last two away games have left a lot to be desired.
It seems that when the team has fought so hard to earn a lead, the veteran goalkeeper has found a way to undo all the good work done.
Is it time for the goalkeeper to give way to new hands in the Super Eagles’ backend?
