Podolski becomes the fifth most capped German player

Lukas Podolski came off the bench in GermanyÔÇÖs World cup qualifier against Austria tonight to gain his 103rd cap, equalling German legend Franz BeckenbauerÔÇÖs appearance record and moving him to joint fifth on the all-time appearance charts for the German national team.
Podolski, who turned 27 in June, is now 47 caps behind Lothar Matthaus who holds the record with 150 caps. The only player ahead of him who is still playing is Miroslav Klose who is on 124 caps, however Klose is 34 so time is certainly on LukasÔÇÖs side.
