From the Barracks in Ikeja to the Midfield of the Super Eagles. Ndidi’s rise in the footballing world is nothing short of a fairytale, a fairytale which is still ongoing i must say.
From his days at Nat Boys Academy to a move to Genk in Belgium before getting a dream move to the Epl to play for Leicester. Ndidi’s career trajectory is one worth emulating by youngsters hoping to one day play at the top level.
His work ethics, on the field performance, and dedication has seen him rated as one of the best in his position both in England and Europe, not surprising that he has become one of few players whose names are already on the team sheet to Russia ( barring any injuries).
With the level of performance he puts in on a weekly basis for his team Leicester and for the Eagles during the qualifiers, one can be forgiven for imagining him with the Eagles armband in the years to come, or maybe even after this World Cup. Although the Eagles presently have a more than capable leader in John Mikel Obi, but when he leaves the Eagles fold, who will be the right player to carry on in this leadership position?
My obvious choice for the Eagles captaincy would be Wilfred Ndidi, hardly have we seen him put a foot wrong when playing for the Eagles, whenever he puts on the green and white jersey, he is always committed, a quality not found in many players today, and he always look like someone who will go the extra mile for the Eagles. More importantly his career seems to be heading upwards, with his performances, he doesn’t seem like he will be heading to China or the lower leagues anytime soon, plus he might be getting a move to one of the big boys sooner than expected.
So whenever there is a need for a change in captaincy, we need not look further because we already have one in Wilfred Ndidi .
