Omeruo fit for Eagles opener

Nigeria defender Kenneth Omeruo has eased Super Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi’s worries after being cleared fit for Monday’s Group F opener against Iran.

The Chelsea centre-back sat out the Eagles’ last friendly match against the USA because of an ankle knock after clashing with team-mate Victor Moses during training.

However, team doctor Ben Alaiya has confirmed that the 20-year-old is in contention for a place Keshi’s starting line-up for the match against Team Melli.

“It was just a precautionary measure,” Alaiya explained to reporters. “His injury is a minor one. He will be fit.”

Omeruo spent the past six months on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship, where he quickly established himself as a key player, which convinced his parent club to extend his contract.
