Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner is set to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of a move to Juventus, according to Bianconeri director Giuseppe Marotta.
The Denmark international has failed to break into the Gunners’ team after returning from his loan spell at Sunderland and now looks set to join the Serie A champions on transfer deadline day.
Juventus had looked set to sign Dimitar Berbatov before he opted to join Fulham, and Marotta was keen to avoid discussing the deal in detail in order to prevent a similar situation.
Marotta told Sky Sport Italia: ÔÇ£Bendtner is already in Italy and will undergo a medical tomorrow.
ÔÇ£Until the final paperwork is concluded, I will not say that the player is ours. That became clear yesterday.ÔÇØ
The Bianconeri board member insisted that the club did not approach the Bulgarian as he was travelling to discuss terms with Fiorentina, and suggested that he had not informed the Viola of his decision.
Marotta continued: ÔÇ£We reiterate that we only approached Manchester United and the player after we were informed he had already turned down Fiorentina. Perhaps he forgot to tell Fiorentina that.
ÔÇ£Berbatov certainly did not make a good impression on anyone and it was an unprofessional way to behave, so we agree with Fiorentina that itÔÇÖs best he didnÔÇÖt come here.ÔÇØ
Juve were drawn alongside Chelsea, Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Nordsjaelland in Group E of the Champions League, and Marotta insisted that the club were just satisfied to be back in Europe’s top competition after a three-year absence.
He said: ÔÇ£Are we happy with the draw? We are above all happy to be back in the Champions League, at a level that fits the prestige of the club.
