Napoli ‘keen on Fellaini loan’

Reports in Italy claim that Napoli are attempting to bring Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini to the Serie A club ahead of the new campaign.

The Belgium international endured a debut season to forget at Old Trafford, having made his £27.5 million switch from Premier League rivals Everton a year ago.

Fellaini managed just 21 appearances in all competitions for United last term and he is likely to be on the fringes of the first team under new manager Louis van Gaal.

Partenopei coach Rafael Benitez has made the 26-year-old a top target as he looks to challenge current holders Juventus for the Scudetto in 2014/15.

The English giants are open to selling the former Toffees star, but their Italian counterparts have balked at the asking price and are exploring the option of a 12-month loan deal with the idea of making the transfer permanent later on, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The newspaper reports that Napoli director of sport Riccardo Bigon has travelled to England to discuss the transfer with United.
