Mixed Fortunes for African Teams in Club World Cup

Moroccan champions Raja Casablanca are through to the semi finals of the Fifa Club World Cup.
Raja beat Monterrey of Mexico 2-1 after extra time with the first 90 minutes ending 1-1.

Chemseddine Chtibi put Raja ahead midway through the 1st Half only for defender Jose Basanta to head home to level scores for Monterrey in the 53rd minute.

The host also benefitted from a stoppage-time goal in the previous round tie against Auckland City.

The other African representative Al Ahly of Egypt lost 2-0 to Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande also in the quarter-finals
Argentine Dario Conca and Brazilian Elkeson were on the score sheet for Guangzhou Evergrande  coached by Italian World Cup winner Marcello Lippi.

Raja Casablanca of Moroccan who qualified as the host nation’s representative will now meet Copa Libertadores winners, Atletico Mineiro in the last four.
European champions, Bayern Munich are scheduled to take on Asian champions Guangzhou Evergrande of China in the other Semi-final.

The final match will be played on December 21 in Marrakech, Morocco.

The Club World Cup is being played in Africa for the first time.
